Introducing the 2014 NYCE Delegation
The youth delegation was selected through our nomination and interview process. We would like proudly introduce the 2014 Native Youth Cultural Exchange delegation representing Arizona, California, and Hawaii. These young men have been nominated by prominent members of their community for their beginning or active leadership and involvement in their communities. These young men are about to embark on a journey that has positive impacts for themselves as well as their communities. They will have the opportunity to share and learn from one another as well as the communities they will be working with for the 2014 NYCE Journey.
Alakea Bidal (Kanaka)
I was born in Hilo hospital on September 21st 1997 I grew up in Puna Hawaii. My passions are fish keeping, diving I love keeping ornamental fish and oddballs. One day I hope to be a breeder and sell fish all over the world. I am half Filipino and have many other nationalities. Grew up in Hawaii never been to the continental united states.
What I hope to gain on this trip is to gain knowledge of what’s out there in the world and build up knowledge of the native Americans. And teach them about Hawaii natives.
Keakoa Kahele (Kanaka)
My name is Kekoa Nui Nalu Kahele. I was born and raised on the Big island of Hawai’i. We are a part of the kanaka maoli (Hawaiian Nation) I am 18 Years old and I love to play Hawaiian music with my ukulele. One day I would like to be a well known Hawaiian musician and be able to compose my own music.
With this trip I hope to gain more knowledge of the native American tribes and to learn there customs and traditions and to be able to use what I learn.
