Introducing the 2014 NYCE Delegation

The youth delegation was selected through our nomination and interview process. We would like proudly introduce the 2014 Native Youth Cultural Exchange delegation representing Arizona, California, and Hawaii. These young men have been nominated by prominent members of their community for their beginning or active leadership and involvement in their communities. These young men are about to embark on a journey that has positive impacts for themselves as well as their communities. They will have the opportunity to share and learn from one another as well as the communities they will be working with for the 2014 NYCE Journey.

Dion Sahneyah (Hopi)

My name is Dion Sahneyah, I am Hopi from the Hopi reservation located northeast of Flagstaff. I hope to broaden my horizon of how many Native American communities there are out in the states, and I would like to analyze how communities deal with solving problems they faced or are currently facing.

Darold Honwisiwma (Hopi)

Hello my name is Darold Honwisiwma and I am a member of the Hopi tribe and live in Second Mesa, AZ. What I wish to gain from this Native Youth Cultural Exchange is a better understanding of the other indigenous tribes we will be visiting like Hawaiian natives and Northern Californian tribes. Not only that possibly gaining the knowledge of how their people live or lived through out the centuries. Also asking questions like if their communities might have faced problems that we are dealing with today. Problems such as, domestic violence, alcohol/drug abuse, drought, water pollution, Health issues, etc. What ever knowledge and understanding I gain, I would bring back to my people and my tribe to share and talk about how we may be able to help one another and lower the percentage of these problems, because i've heard as a saying from when I went to school at Santa Fe Indian School was that " there are many people and races in the world, but together we are all one tribe and therefore we need to help and love one another" With that being said I would like to say please and thank you for your donations and cooperation with the NYCE program of 2014 Kwa-kwa (thank you)
